Commercial Kitchen Hoods

 

 

 

Commercial kitchen hoods & ducts with fixed-fire protection systems require maintenance every six months and after activation of the system.  Inspections and service shall be performed by qualified individuals, and a certificate of inspection shall be forwarded to the Richland Fire & Emergency Services Department.

Commercial kitchen hoods & ducts shall be cleaned as often as necessary to prevent the build-up of grease. 

Non-compliant fire protection systems in commercial kitchen hoods & ducts may be required to upgrade to a UL 300 system. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NFPA 96

 

New hood & duct fire extinguishing systems shall be UL 300 compliant.

Existing systems may remain non-compliant unless the following conditions apply:

            �� The system can no longer be maintained as required for 6-month maintenance due to lack of available replacement parts.

            �� The system is providing inadequate coverage to existing cooking equipment and needs to be expanded.

            �� The system is being modified or there is a tenant improvement that requires a plan review by this office.

 

Existing non-compliant systems, with one or more of the above conditions, shall require an upgrade to a UL 300 compliant system. Plans and specifications shall be submitted to the Fire Department for review.
